At Bloomingdale, picture books are central to our classrooms. Their simple stories address the social and emotional needs of children. Beautiful illustrations addressing feelings, social issues, community and cultural awareness invite children to explore books on their own. Sometimes a book is a big hit, and that was the case with Plátanos Go with Everything/Los Plátanos van con todo this fall. Four of our classrooms jumped in with both feet after reading the book: learning about plantains, shopping, making mangú and tostones, and eating them with delight. Some of our children already knew about mangú, but most had not. One parent came to school the next day asking for the recipe. You can find the recipe here.
