Health and Wellbeing

Medical and Dental Health

Bloomingdale requires that every child we serve receives regular medical exams and dental care. Family Services staff helps parents access appropriate healthcare providers in the community for services and referrals.

Learning about dental hygiene is part of the curriculum. Each child receives a personal toothbrush to use after breakfast and lunch.

Nutrition

We provide two nourishing meals a day, along with healthful snacks, to meet the nutrition needs of active children. Meals are prepared in our own kitchens, and our menus reflect the cuisines of the families served in the program.

Outdoor Play

Vigorous outdoor play, weather permitting, is an important part of the children’s daily schedule. The children enjoy the use of our own well-equipped outdoor playgrounds, and we take full advantage of our proximity to Central Park, Riverside Park, and Morningside Park. As participants in New York State’s Eat Well Play Hard program, we provide consistent and positive messages to our staff and our families about eating healthy foods and being physically active

Yoga

Yoga has been a valued component of the children’s program at Bloomingdale since 2000. The Yoga teacher meets with our 3’s and 4’s classes for half-hour weekly sessions. Yoga practice supports children’s attention span and ability to focus, and enhances their physical balance and coordination.
