This school year our children are learning in person in the classrooms, and virtually in online class meetings. Each classroom has developed its own approach, but they all follow routines, which are so important for young children. Here we focus on Classroom #1, a 4s classroom as they explore opposites and differences. The video covers two sessions on one recent day, and five children attended. The meeting starts with a review of the message board, the same one that is used in the classroom. First, the children sign in for the day with their name, and then their symbols are discussed. The third section is the activity of the day. The teachers engage the children with the activity, sometimes with the collaboration of family members. Sometimes children are following their own track, and the teachers work together to respect where the child is, and to continue with the session. The final panel of the message board is the Goodbye song, and the children say goodbye in English, Spanish, French and Garifuna.
Said Classroom #1 teacher Yandra Mordan: “I have been impressed with the virtual classes because I never thought that I could create a close relationship with parents and children through the computer. Now I know it is possible, and it is really amazing!
