The start of a new school year is always a time of pedagogical reflection and learning as well as an opportunity to be reminded of safety procedures and practices for Bloomingdale staff. It started with a welcome and informative Staff Meeting presented by our Executive Director, José Velilla. Next came a session with Lesley Koplow, our program’s mental health consultant and child development expert. Lesley has been connected to Bloomingdale for many years. She helped to develop the one to one play therapy program that is in use today. You can read about her books for children here.
The staff then spent a busy morning on First Aid, from allergy awareness and how to administer an EPI pen to CPR to learning how to stop choking in children and adults. Throughout, the teachers were cleaning and organizing their classrooms and holding home visits. They were ready to go for the start of another great school year!
