Andrea’s warm smile and gentle presence have been a feature of one of our classrooms for the last year. She is leaving us, and it is time to celebrate her time with us. A lifelong New Yorker, she has lived in the Bronx and Manhattan, and she attended NYC schools including the Richard R. Green High School of Teaching. She is currently attending Lehman College, majoring in psychology and sociology, and minoring in Early Childhood Education. She will seamlessly transition to Lehman’s Early Childhood masters program during the last semester of her bachelor’s degree.
Our Program Director of Education, Marilyn Barnwell, had this to say: “One day as Andrea passed Bloomingdale she decided to come in and to find out if she could volunteer in our classrooms. We had a wonderful first meeting. I was immediately impressed by Andrea’s sincerity and the warmth she displayed. She soon began volunteering in one of our classrooms. When a teacher left in the middle of the school year, the classroom teacher requested Andrea to be her assistant. When Andrea is with children I see the same sincerity and warmth I saw on the first day we met. Andrea has a beautiful soul. I will miss her warm presence.
Some words from Andrea give a sense of her appreciation for young children: “Every child is unique and special. The children amaze me with all that they know and then teach me. You can learn so much from children.”
Thank you for being part of Bloomingdale, Andrea. We will miss you!
