Bloomingdale Staff Builds for the Future

Bloomingdale Family Program Executive Director José Velilla starting a discussion at the Total Staff Meeting

The entire staff meets before the beginning of a new school year, to lay the foundation for a successful year. They review Bloomingdale Family Program procedures and guidelines from an alphabet soup of agencies, among them: The Administration for Children’s Services (ACS), the NY Department of Education (DOE), the Office of Head Start (OHS), and the NYC Department of Health (DOH). Before that, José set them a tricky task: using just a few elements, tape, newspaper, small scissors, paper clips and very limited communication tools, they had to build a tall tower:

Afterward, the teams discussed the process and uncovered principles of teamwork and individual perspectives.

Then they applied the lessons learned to the policies and procedures.

Thank you, Bloomingdale staff, for all the work you do behind the scenes to prepare a safe and happy learning environment for the children!
