The Bloomingdale Governing Board held an onsite orientation in the Executive Directors office in mid-October. Breakfast was provided and shared with the Bloomingdale staff. The Orientation Session was purposeful in two ways. First, it was an opportunity for those who joined the board recently to learn more about the program and second, given there hasn’t been an onsite Board meeting since the beginning of COVID, it was an opportunity to meet in person for the first time for all members.
The session started with a welcome from Georgia Keohane, Board Chair, followed by some Bloomingdale history from Board Member Sandy Roche, Executive Director José Velilla, and Director of Education Marilyn Barnwell. Finance Committee Chairs Sue Sekar and Jason Clark presented on Bloomingdale’s finances. Aya Taveras gave her perspective as a former parent and alumni and Wendy Feinstein presented on Therapeutic Services. Nancy Harvey, chair of the strategic planning committee, provided a Strategic Planning update and Georgia finished with an overview of the governing board process.
Some Board members remained for a quick tour of the site. It was a wonderful session. The staff and Board alike, were thrilled that our Board members were able to come and spend some time at the site, and see each other outside of the zoom squares.
