Ginel was a Bloomingdale child from her earliest days – both of her parents were working in our classrooms for most of her childhood. Her mother, Gina Marquez, is still a classroom teacher with us. Her father, Miguel Rodriguez, worked in our classrooms for 17 years, and her brother Miquel, “Miggy”Rodriguez, was also a student at Bloomingdale.
One of her memories of her time at Bloomingdale was running out of her classroom to go to her mother’s classroom, keeping teachers Doris Taveras, Jenny Vazquez and Denise Wechter very busy.
Ginel went to NYC public schools, P.S. 166, The Computer School, and Harvest Collegiate for high school. For college she attended Bronx Community College and City College. She is now enrolled in a Masters Program at Grand Canyon University in Secondary Education with a Humanities Emphasis. She is currently a secondary substitute teacher and also works in our afterschool Homework Help program.
She likes reading, and runs an Instagram page where she posts book reviews. Look for her @ginelmila! She also loves music and creating playlists, something that will surely endear her to her high school students.
